CHARGERS DEFEAT BLUE HAWKS, FALL TO STATESMEN

The Briar Cliff women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the Siouxland Invitational on Saturday with a split, defeating Dickinson State 3-1 before falling 3-1 to William Penn. The Chargers now stand 2-2 on the season.

Game 1 vs Dickinson State – W 3-1

After dropping the opening set, the Chargers regrouped and took the next three behind a balanced offensive effort.

Briar Cliff jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the second set and never looked back. The Chargers were able to control the net, holding the Blue Hawks to a -0.129 hitting percentage, highlighted by a strong performance by Brooklyn Voss. As a team, BCU tallied one solo block and 18 block assists throughout the rest of the match.

Tamika Eastman paced the offense with 17 kills, while Isabelle Lenz added 12 of her own. Iwalani Beltran dished out 26 assists, followed by Kylie Harts' 21. Defensively, libero Avery Beller collected 28 digs, while Joana Neves chipped in 9.

Game 2 vs William Penn – L 3-1

The Chargers carried this momentum into the afternoon, bouncing back after a slow start. In set two, Eastman and Basham fueled the attack with back-to-back kills, while a service run from Beller pushed BCU ahead 20-16. The cliff closed out the set 25-19 to even the match.

Despite the Chargers' efforts, William Penn pulled away in the final two sets. Offensively, Basham and Eastman each contributed 8 kills, with Caton Firkins adding four, and Hart recorded 15 assists.

On defense, Beller notched 14 digs, and Neves added 9. At the net, the Chargers totaled 20 blocks assists, led by Voss and Basham with five each.

The Chargers will be back in action next week in Oskaloosa, Iowa for the William Penn Tournament.
