The Charger softball team split their doubleheader against the Pioneers of Mid America Nazarene University Tuesday afternoon at Historic Hubbard Park in Sioux City, Iowa

Game one – W, 5-4
After giving up four runs in the first inning, the Chargers battled back to walk it off in the final frame.

In the bottom of the second,
Kaydence Kinder led off the inning with a walk. Kinder set up
Georgia Krohn for a RBI double to card the Chargers first run of the contest. With runners and second and third, a RBI sac fly from
Hailey Yon cut the Pioneer lead to two.

In the bottom of the sixth, Krohn delivered another RBI double to drive in Kinder to cut the lead to one.
Kenadee Loew followed up with a RBI double of her own to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh,
Jessica James led off with a double to left field to represent the game winning run with no outs.
Karina Cupples singled to left field to put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt from
Rylee Cain moved runners to second and third with one out.
Kylie Wilhelms laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases. Kinder was hit by a pitch and drove in the winning run.

Game two – L, 1-8
Â
James led off the inning after being struck by a pitch. An infield single from Cupples placed runners on second and first with no outs. The Pioneers turned a double play, and James was still on second base with two outs. Wilhelms delivered in the scoring opportunity, a RBI single to left field to give Briar Cliff an early 1-0 lead.

After giving up only three runs between the second and third inning, the Pioneers poured in five runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-1 lead.

The Chargers move to 6-14 (0-4 GPAC), and will host the Mount Marty Lancers this Friday at Historic Hubbard Park in Sioux City, Iowa. Game one is slated for 3 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
