The Charger men's basketball team fell 88-81 to the Morningside Mustangs Saturday afternoon inside Allee Gym. The Chargers led 48-40 at half time, but a late run by the Mustangs propelled them to the win.
 
The Chargers were off to a fast start on offense, shooting 55% from the field and limited the Mustangs to 38% shooting from the floor. Matthew Stilwill scored 18 points and shot seven-for-11 in the first half.
 
Jamison Helmers chipped in 11 points and shot 50% from the field in the half.Jaxson Wingert chipped in 10 points during the run.
 
Briar Cliff with 16:29 remaining in the contest took an 11-point lead following an and-one opportunity from Wingert.
 
Morningside with 2:22 remaining took a three-point lead following a Joey Skoff three-pointer.
Stilwill converted a layup with 15 seconds left to cut the Mustang lead to 86-81. Coming out of a timeout, the Mustangs were able to put the game away with a basket with six seconds remaining.
 
Stilwill finished the contest with a game-high 32 point and grabbed three rebounds and recorded two steals. Wingert finished with 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Blake Sindelar added 16 points and grabbed four rebounds. Lugar finished the contest with 13 rebounds and recorded three blocks.
 
The Chargers finish the regular season with a 14-14 (9-11 GPAC) and will be the sixth seed heading into the GPAC Tournament. They will travel to the third seeded Northwestern Red Raiders this Wednesday for the GPAC quarterfinal round in Orange City, Iowa. Read Full Article
