The No. 20-ranked Briar Cliff women's basketball team improved to 4-0 with an 80—70 road victory over Benedictine Friday night in Atchison, Kansas.
Briar Cliff's balanced attack led the way as
Kenna Mongan poured in 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Mallie McNair notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while
Taylor Sodeman added 15 points and five boards.
Abby Lee chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds.
Off the bench,
Demi Ferguson provided a spark with seven points and seven rebounds.
The Chargers jumped ahead early with a 22-13 first-quarter lead, fueled by defensive pressure and efficient shooting. Benedictine trimmed the deficit to six by halftime, but BCU maintained control through the second half. A 27-point fourth quarter sealed the win, highlighted by key buckets from Mongan and Sodeman down the stretch.
Briar Cliff shot 41.4 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line, while out-rebounding the Ravens 42-38.
Riley Bruggeman led Benedictine with 23 points
The Chargers return to action Saturday, November 8, at 12:00 p.m. in Atchison, Kansas, to take on Missouri Valley College.
