The ninth ranked Charger women's basketball team remained undefeated Saturday afternoon, rolling to an 85–65 road victory over the College of Saint Mary behind the strong performance from
Mallie McNair.
McNair poured in a game-high 30 points on 12-of-18 shooting while adding six rebounds, five assists and three steals, fueling an offense that produced at least 20 points in three of four quarters.
Abby Lee added 21 points and seven boards in the contest.
Briar Cliff jumped ahead with a 24-point opening quarter and carried a 39–32 lead into halftime. Saint Mary briefly trimmed the deficit in the third, but the Chargers responded by closing strong, outscoring the Flames 25–14 in the final period to put the game away.
The Chargers controlled the interior, finishing with a 44–12 advantage in points in the paint and a 47–30 edge on the glass. Their defense was equally impactful, forcing 20 turnovers and turning them into 19 points.
Taylor Sodeman,
Kinzee Hinders, and
Natalie Tietjen each added eight points in the contest.
Madelyn Gaughen led the Flames with 22 points, while Ella Klusman and Meghan Keil each added 12. Jai'La Porter contributed 14 points, six rebounds and five assists in the loss.
The Cliff improves to 6-0 (1-0 GPAC) and will travel to Forest City, Iowa next Wednesday, as they take on the Waldorf Warriors. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
