The 20
th-ranked Briar Cliff women's basketball team improved to 2-0 with an impressive 97-77 victory over Saint Ambrose University Saturday night inside the Newman Flanagan Center.
The Chargers' offense was firing on all cylinders, led by
Mallie McNair and
Abby Lee, who combined for 46 points. McNair poured in 24 points, added six rebounds and five assists, while Lee posted 22 points, six boards and two blocks on 11-14 shooting.
Taylor Sodeman contributed 14 points and a team-high 9 rebounds, and
Brooklyn Heineman filled the stat sheet with 13 points, eight boards, four assists, and five steals.
Briar Cliff came out hot, shooting 68% in the opening frame to take the 30-24 lead. The Chargers carried that momentum into halftime, maintaining a 49-43 advantage.Â
After a balanced third quarter, Briar Cliff sealed the win with a dominant 31-point fourth, outscoring the Fighting Bees 31-17 down the stretch
The Chargers shot 54% (39-72) from the floor and outrebounded Saint Ambrose 43-34. They scored 56 points in the paint, 16 fast break points, and converted 19 points off turnovers while holding the Bees to 38.9% shooting.
Saint Ambrose was led by Abby Wolter's 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Jayla Stirgus and Hayley Flores added 11 and 9 points, respectively.
The Chargers return to action Sunday, November 2, hosting Grand View University inside the Newman Flanagan Center. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
