The Charger men's soccer team's comeback fell just short against the visiting Northwestern Red Raiders 3-2 Wednesday afternoon on Faber Field.
The Red Raiders were in control for majority of the contest, jumping out to a 3-0 lead following a goal in the 62
nd minute.
The Chargers quickly responded with a goal in the 63
rd minute, as
Pablo Gonzalez found the back of the net off an assist from
Alejandro Illan.
In the 77
th minute, the Chargers were awarded a corner kick and following a rebound,
Finlay Skilling's header that went in was nullified by an offside call.
In the 81
st minute,
David Sauter scored off an assist from Illan to put the Chargers within one.
In the final minute, the Chargers looked for the equalizer, but the Red Raider keeper was able to intercept the cross to hang on to the 3-2 win.
David Sauter paced the Chargers with four shots while
Gabriel Hernandez Les recorded three shots.
Xabier Ilundain recorded two saves in the contest.
The Chargers move to 4-6-1 (1-3-1 GPAC) and will host Maharishi International this Saturday on Faber Field. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
