The 20th ranked Charger women's basketball team opened the 2025–26 season with a 76–66 victory over Tabor College Friday evening at the Newman Flanagan Center.
McNair and Lee each poured in 27 points to lead the Chargers, combining to shoot 22-of-35 from the floor. Lee added a double-double with 12 rebounds, while McNair chipped in seven boards and four assists.
Taylor Sodeman added 12 points and seven rebounds, and
Kenna Mongan contributed six points and four rebounds.
After the two teams ended the first quarter tied at 16, Briar Cliff took control in the second quarter, outscoring Tabor 20–13 to build momentum heading into halftime. The Chargers' ball movement and inside scoring helped them seize a 36–29 lead at the break, one they never relinquished.
Briar Cliff shot 54% (31-of-57) from the field and held a 37–36 rebounding edge while limiting the Bluejays to 38% shooting. The Chargers also dominated the paint with 36 points inside and forced 13 turnovers on defense.
Lillie Veer led Tabor with 21 points, and Tayton Smith posted a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double. The Bluejays' bench added 35 points, but Briar Cliff's efficient offense down the stretch sealed the win.
Briar Clif will return to action next Saturday as they host the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
