The 9
th ranked Charger women's basketball team improved to 12-2 (6-2 GPAC) after beating the visiting Mount Marty Lancers 90-58 inside the Newman Flanagan Center Thursday evening.
Four Chargers scored in double figures, paced by
Grace Flanagan and
Kenna Mongan who both led the team with 19 points in the contest. Flanagan had the hot hand in the first half, scoring 17 points while shooting five-for-eight from the field and knocking down four threes in the stretch.
The defensive pressure in the first quarter helped The Cliff get off to a 17-5 lead early. BCU forced seven turnovers and recorded six steals in the opening frame. The Chargers held the Lancers to just 36.4% from the field in the first period.
The Chargers kept the momentum rolling in the second half, going on a 11-2 to start the third quarter. A three from
Kennedy Benne off an assist from
Mallie McNair extended the lead to 23 heading into the final frame.
Briar Cliff led by as many as 33 late in the contest following a three pointer from
Taylor Sodeman.
Adrianna Webster recorded a double-double with 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while going four-for-seven from the field and a perfect four-for-four at the free throw line.
Rachel Langel added 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.
BCU as a team went a perfect 15-for-15 from the charity stripe and knocked down 11 threes in the contest.
The Chargers will return to action this Saturday, as they travel to Hastings, Nebraska to take on the Broncos of Hastings College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
