Chargers Close Out MMU Invite

YANKTON, S.D. – The Briar Cliff University men's golf team has finished the Mount Marty Invite.

The tournament was played at the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, a Par-72.

Morningside shot +5 (296-285=581) to win by one stroke over Doane and Northeast Community College. Rounding out the top five were Doane "B" (4^th - +17 – 296/297=593) and Concordia (Neb.) (5^th - +22 – 303/295=598).

Briar Cliff was tenth at +41 (313-304=617).

Individually, Luke Bonser (Northeast CC) shot -7 (70-67=137) to win by three strokes over Jacob Harnden (Northeast CC).

Freshman Joris Scharli tied for 27^th at +6 (78-72=150).

Senior Karter Lein tied for 34^th at +8 (78-74=152).

Senior Gregorio Fernandez tied for 34^th at +8 (71-81=152). He was tied for second with 26 pars.

Freshman Oliver Kardos tied for 68^th at +19 (86-77=163).

Senior Cade Pepper tied for 80^th at +19 (91-83=174).

"The men showed resilience today as most of them were playing in their first collegiate tournament. The course was in fantastic condition and offered the chance for a great score. I'm really looking forward to see what this team will do once all the pieces come together. In the present, everyone needs to keep working hard to shore up a couple loose strokes. We will continue to climb!"

Competing as individuals;
Freshman Jack Bloom tied for 18^th at +4 (77-71=148). He was among the top 10 in pars (23) and had an Eagle on the Par 4 406 yard Hole 6 in the second round.

Freshman Braden Fleischman tied for 60^th at +17 (80-81=161).

Sophomore Domenick Herbst is tied for 83^rd at +37 (91-90=181).

Briar Cliff is at the Blue River Classic, Wednesday & Thursday, Sept. 4-5. The tournament is at Highlands GC in Lincoln, Neb.
