The Charger wrestling team has announced the hiring of Assistant Coach, Drew West. West joins the Cliff after finishing his collegiate wrestling career at Gardner Webb University.
Â
"I am exceedingly excited to bring coach West into the Charger wrestling program and BCU community. Not only is he bringing amazing wrestling credentials and knowledge into the fold, a passion for helping young wrestlers make the transition into becoming productive men is evident," said Head Coach
Donaco Watts. "His time spent wrestling at the NCAA Division I level will surely inject some new and exciting ideas into our room. I look forward to our partnership and helping each other grow as coaches and mentors. Coach West will be an amazing asset to the program."
Â
West holds a highly decorated wrestling career, being a four-time Iowa High School State Placer, three-time Iowa High School State Finalist, and one state title during his prep career. He was also named a Cadet Greco-Roman USA World Team Member and placed third and fifth at the Senior US Open. West finished fourth in the US World Team Trials.
Â
West began his collegiate career at Northern Illinois University before transferring to Gardner-Webb. A two-year starter for the Runnin' Bulldogs, West compiled a 42-20 overall and placed third in the Southern Conference Tournament in 2022-23 and was the runner-up in his final season Boiling Springs.

The Charger wrestling team will open the season at the Falcon Invite in Park City, Kansas on November 2. The Cliff's Blue and Gold Wrestle-off will be on October 24 inside the Newman Flanagan Center.
