The Charger wrestling team dropped its road dual to the Avila Eagles 27-15 Tuesday evening in Kansas City, MO.
The Chargers picked up three individual victories on the night, led by Parker Leverknight, who earned a 9-5 decision over Aaron Gomez in the 125-pound match.
At 165 pounds, Dyllon Carpenter earned a victory by forfeit, while Jackson Balmer added another team win by forfeit at 174 pounds.
Graison Kelley dropped a 10-5 decision to Isaac Ward at 197 pounds. Dariuz Black fell in a close 3-2 decision at 133 pounds, while Brayden Kreikemeier dropped a 21-6 technical fall at 141 pounds.
At 149 pounds, Tyler Fouts fell by an 11-4 decision to Austin Stevick. Grant Maas also competed at 157 pounds, falling by a 15-6 major decision. Rounding out the dual, Jeremiah Bethel dropped an 8-1 decision at 184 pounds.
"We definitely took it on the chin tonight. I don't know if the guys weren't expecting a dogfight, or if we were looking past Avila for this Sunday, but either way, that performance wasn't up to our standard," said Head Coach Donaco Watts. "We'll go to the drawing board, make adjustments, and come out swinging this weekend."
The Chargers return back to the mat on Sunday November 8, traveling to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, taking on Ouachita Baptist at 12 p.m. and Missouri Valley at 3 p.m.
