CHARGERS SWEEP AWAY JIMMIES

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – All cylinders were firing in harmony as the Briar Cliff University baseball team (13-7 Great Plains Athletic Conference, 19-15) swept Jamestown (11-9 GPAC, 25-13) 7-4 and 11-1, Monday afternoon at Bishop Mueller Field.

Game 1
Jamestown struck first, scoring two runs in the second inning.  In the bottom half of the inning, sophomore Cade Marquardt and junior Jake Chronic led off with walks.

Following two outs, junior Justin Remar blasted the ball over the left field fence for a 3-2 lead.  The Chargers would score twice over the next three innings to lead 5-2 after five.

The Jimmies picked up two runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it 5-4, BCU.  In the bottom of the sixth, with two outs and bases loaded, Briar Cliff took advantage of an error to score two runs to seal the game.

For Briar Cliff, Remar had two hits with a home run, scored two runs and drove in three while junior Cam Riemer and junior Brett Sitzmann each had home runs.  Sophomore Carter Schorg (4-1) gave up five hits, two runs, walked one and struck out five in five innings.  Senior Nelson Cone (1) picked up the save giving up two hits, two runs, walked one and struck out two in two innings.

For Jamestown, Jett Nelson had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two runs.  Jack Howard (4-4) gave up five hits, five runs, walked three and struck out three in 4.7 innings.

Game 2
The Chargers erupted for seven runs in the first inning and never looked back.

For Briar Cliff, senior Walker Moore had two hits (both doubles) and drove in three runs.  Freshman Logan Borboa (5-3) gave up four hits, one run, walked one and struck out seven in seven innings.

For Jamestown, Trei Hough (0-1) gave up three hits, seven runs with two earned and walked one 0.7 innings.

Briar Cliff will prepare for a four-game series against the Lancers of Mount Marty beginning Saturday in Yankton, S.D. The series will conclude at Bishop Mueller Field this Sunday.
