The Charger baseball team split their doubleheader against the Lancers of Mount Marty Saturday afternoon, taking game one 8-6 before falling in game two 7-6.

Game one – W, 8-6,

The Cliff struck first in the top of the second, as Cam Reimer hit a double to center field followed by
Cade Marquardt drawing a walk. An error by the Lancers put runners on second and third with no outs.
Drew Petersen put the ball in play to drive in Reimer to score the game's first run.
Easton Cone's RBI-single put the Cliff up 2-0.

The Lancers quickly responded with a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

The Chargers plated five runs the next inning, capped off by an RBI-double from
Jake Chronic and a RBI-single from Cone to take a 7-2 lead.

In the top of the fourth with the bases loaded, Marquardt recorded a RBI-single to give the Chargers a four run lead.

Walker Moore went three-for-five at the dish in game one, followed by
Diego Trujillo who went two-for-four at the plate.

Logan Barboa earned the save for the Chargers, tossing two innings while allowing just one hit.

Game two – L, 7-6
Â
In the top of the third, the Cliff tied the game at 1-1 after
Jared Sitzmann's RBI-single drove in
Justin Remar with two outs.

In the top of the fourth, a two-run shot from Marquardt put the Chargers in the driver seat with a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the fifth with runners at first and second, Reimer recorded a bases-clearing double to put the Chargers up 5-1.

The Lancers in the sixth and seventh stole the momentum after scoring three runs in each of the innings. Trailing by two runs in the top of the eighth, Moore's hard single back to the pitcher was enough to drive in Chronic to make it a one run game.

Down to their final out, Marquardt represented the tying run after he singled to right field. Chronic drew a walk to put runners on first and second for the Cliff.
Drew Petersen would strikeout swinging as the Cliff dropped game two.

Both Reimer and Marquardt drove in two runs in the contest. Moore went two-for-five in the contest and drove in one run.

The Chargers move to 22-18 (14-8 GPAC), and will return to action tomorrow, as they conclude their four-game series against Mount Marty at Bishop Mueller Complex.
