CHARGERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST WARRIORS

The Charger baseball team split their double header Saturday against the Warriors of Midland at Bishop Mueller Field.
 
Game 1, L – 8-6
 
After giving up two runs in the top of the first, the Charger cut the deficit to one the next half inning following a RBI-single from Cam Reimer.
 
The Cliff tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the second after a RBI-single from Easton Cone and a RBI-double from Walker Moore.
 
Trailing heading into the final inning, the Chargers tied the contest 5-5 after sacrifice flies from Jake Chronic and Drew Petersen to force extra innings. The Warriors in extra innings benefited from a three-run homer to put pressure on the Chargers.
 
Catcher Cade Marquardt went three-for-four at the plate while Moore went two-for-five with two RBIs. Justin Remar went two-for-four with one run scored.
 
Game 2, W, 7-5
 
The Chargers in game two found the success through the long ball, as Petersen in the bottom of the second belted a two-run blast over the right field wall. Cone blasted a solo shot over left field to put the Cliff up 3-1.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Petersen smashed a two-run shot over right field, followed by a solo shot to left center field from Remar put the Chargers up 6-1.
 
The next inning, Jake Cronic's RBI-single drove in Trujillo to give the Cliff a 7-1 lead. In the top of the sixth, the Warriors inched closer, trailing by two runs heading into the final inning.
 
Nelson Cone in the final inning on the bump retired the side in order to earn the victory. Matthew Hmielewski allowed just one run on three hits and struck out four in five innings of work.
 
Chronic in the DH role went a perfect three-for-three with one RBI in the contest. Petersen had a team-high four RBIs in the contest.
 
The Cliff moves to 18-17 on the season and will return to action Monday as they host the Jimmies of Jamestown. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
