CHARGERS EARN 20TH VICTORY, DOWN MORNINGSIDE ON SENIOR DAY

The Charger women's basketball team downed cross-town rival Morningside 74-65 inside the Newman Flanagan Center on senior day. Payton Slaughter led the way with 17 points and six rebounds, shooting five-for-seven from three. Konnor Sudmann added 16 points and five assists and collected five rebounds. Kennedy Benne chipped in 12 points and went seven-for-nine from the free throw line.
 
Both teams traded baskets back-and-forth early on, with Kenna Mongan and Benne knocking down back-to-back threes to tie the contest 20-20 heading into quarter number two. With 5:43 remaining in the second quarter, the Mustangs took a 28-26 lead following a layup from Lily Vollertsen. The Cliff took a six-point lead late, following back-to-back threes from Grace Flanagan. The Cliff led 35-30 heading into the half.
 
In the final quarter of play, the Chargers clung onto a one-point lead with 7:01 remaining. Sudmann drilled a three following a pair of free throws to give BCU a 60-55 remaining. The Chargers took a nine-point lead with 23 seconds as Slaughter iced the game away at the line.
 
The Chargers were effective at running the Mustangs off the three-point line in the contest, holding them to 17% from three. They forced 15 turnovers and split the rebounding war 30-30 in the contest.
 
The Chargers improved to 20-8 (15-7 GPAC) and be the three seed heading into the GPAC Tournament. They will host the Jimmies of Jamestown on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
