The 12
th ranked Charger women's basketball team jumped back in the win column Monday evening, defeating the Bellevue Bruins 67-60 in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Mallie McNair led the way with 22 points and grabbed six rebounds.
After trading buckets to start the contest, the Bruins' Gabby Moore knocked down three midway through the contest that sparked a 10-3 run in favor of the home team. Briar Cliff trailed by two heading into the second frame following two baskets from
Rachel Langel to close out the first.
Kennedy Benne opened the second with a steal and went coast-to-coast followed by another layup from Langel to give BCU the lead in the contest. McNair drilled a pair of threes a few possessions later and went on to score eight points in the frame while shooting 75% from the field.
The Cliff in the quarter shot 53% from the field and 50% from beyond-the-arc while limiting the Bruins to 38% from the field and nine turnovers.
A three by
Kenna Mongan with 3:03 remaining in the game gave Briar Cliff a 13-point lead. A pair of free throws late from Benne helped preserve the victory for Briar Cliff.
Langel had a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds while going five-for-seven from the field.
Grace Flanagan added 11 points while sinking a pair of triples.
Briar Cliff's defense forced 20 turnovers in the contest and held the Bruins to 39% from the field and six-for-20 from downtown.
The Cliff move to 7-1 on the season, and will return to action next Saturday, as they travel to 5
th ranked Concordia in Seward, Nebraska. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
