Briar Cliff Picks Up A Split

SEWARD, Neb. – Senior Alton Allen and sophomore Dante Rigal went 2-0 as the Briar Cliff University wrestling team (Receiving Votes) (1-1 GPAC, 1-4) split at the GPAC Duals #1, Tuesday.

At 125-lbs, Rigal needed just 1:55 total to pinned both of his opponents. He pinned Kaydon Mueller (Midland) 1:16 into the match and needed just 39 seconds to pin Brian Peck (Doane). At 285-lbs, Allen had wins over two ranked wrestlers.

BCU had a dominating performance against Midland. In the eight matches that were wrestled, the Chargers won seven with all but one coming by major decision, pin or tech fall.

"I'm highly excited for the guys in getting their first dual victory of the season. I feel that a couple of the ones we lost easily could have gone our way, but to actually go get it done is a different thing. In our loss to Doane, I thought our effort was once again up to par, but it came down to youth and a lack of match management.

Dante (Rigal) and Alton (Allen) both got back on track by going 2-0. Dante, who is a bonus point machine, came away with a couple first period falls and Alton picked up two wins over nationally ranked opponents."

Briar Cliff is off until Saturday, Dec. 7 when they compete at the Connor/Oppenheim Doane Open. The tournament is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
