Chargers Compete At Grand View Open

DES MOINES, Iowa – Freshman Dariuz Black had a Top 6 finish as the Briar Cliff University wrestling team (RV) competed at the Grand View Open, Saturday.

In the Freshman/Sophomore division at 133-lbs, Black ended up in sixth place. He came out of the gates on fire, winning his first three matches. Black scored 28 points while giving up just two points. After a loss in the quarterfinals, he picked up two consolation wins to secure his top six finish.

Also in the Freshman/Sophomore division at 133-lbs, sophomore Evan Fuchs went 4-2 and fell one match short of a podium finish. Three of his wins were by pin and the other one was a major decision.

"This season we've made an intentional decision to seek out as much high-level competition as possible and our young pups are really starting to respond. Today we were led by a True Freshman (Dariuz Black) and a Redshirt Sophomore (Evan Fuchs) who went 5-1 and 4-2 on the day, respectively. They both won some big matches throughout the meet. We had a few other bright spots in Ethan (Gregg) (3-2), Mikey (Foster) (2-2), Jackson (Balmer) (2-2) and Adam (Ohnoutka) (2-2). With that said, I am overall pleased with the day we had."
