The Charger men's basketball team prepare for their season opener as they host the Threshers of Bethel. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 inside the Newman Flanagan Center.
The Charger men's basketball team embark on their 2024-25 campaign under the direction of Head Coach Mark Svagera. New assistant coach Adam Schumacher joins The Cliff after serving as a graduate assistant at NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State. Logan Pratt serves his second season as a graduate assistant for the Chargers.
BCU returns four of their five starters from last season, headlined by first-team All-GPAC selection Matthew Stilwill. Stilwill ranked second in the GPAC last season in points per game, averaging 21.2 points per game with 49%/38%/81% shooting splits.
Joining him in the backcourt is Honorable Mention All-GPAC guard Jamison Helmers, who averaged 13.5 points per game while shooting 42% from three.
Honorable Mention All-GPAC forward Blake Sindelar and returning starter Wil Lugar will round out the forward
positions. Sindelar averaged 12.6 points per game while Lugar averaged 9.5 a game.
Briar Cliff signed local product Jaxson Wingert, who averaged 25.9 points per game last season at Dakota Valley.
The Chargers also added Ikenna Ude-Smith, who averaged 17 points and 8.8 rebounds in 18 games for the Iowa
Western Reivers last academic year.
Colby Collison came along late last season, playing valuable minutes for the Chargers down the stretch. His best performance came against a road contest against Hastings where he scored 14 points while shooting 60% from the field.

THE SERIESÂ
The Threshers and Chargers last met in the 2021-22 NAIA National Tournament, with the Threshers taking a 86-70 victory inside the Garvey Center in Wichita, Kansas. Jamison Helmers and Matthew Stilwill were the lone Chargers to play in the contest.
