Chargers Finish Strong

WINDSOR, Colo. – The shots were dropping as the Briar Cliff University men's golf team closed out Battle at the Dance.

The tournament was played at RainDance National Golf Course, a Par-72.

Hastings shot +7 (296-295-280 =871) to win by a stroke over Rocky Mountain College +8 (295-284-293 =872). Rounding out the top five was Northwestern (Iowa) (3^rd - +28 /298-293-301 =892), Midland (4^th - +55 /310-305-304 =919) and Baker (5^th - +69 /312-302-319 =933)

Briar Cliff was sixth at +82 (319-318-309 =946). The final day total of 309 was its best round of the tournament by nine stokes.

Individually, Gabe Escalera (Hastings) shot -9 (67-73-67 =207) to win by eight strokes over Kristjan Burkelca (Rocky Mountain College) and Henry Kosmicki (Hastings).

Junior Thavichakree Arunmala tied for 21^st at +17 (72-81-77 =230). He led the team with 31 pars.

Senior Gregorio Fernandez tied for 24^th at +18 (77-79-78 =231). He 30 pars and five birdies.

Freshman Joris Scharli tied for 31^st at +26 (90-76-76 =239). He had 21 pars and led the Chargers with 10 birdies.

Freshman Jack Bloom tied for 37^th at +30 (87-82-77 =243). He had 20 pars, five birdies and carded an eagle.

Freshman Oliver Kardos tied for 42^nd at +33 (83-88-78 = 246). He finished with 25 pars.

"The men gained some valuable experience as most have never played golf at elevation before (5500 feet plus). The last couple events have really made us work hard. Bent Tree, Whispering Creek, and RainDance are all extremely difficult courses with long carries, challenging mental strategies, and undulating greens. Even a one or two shot lapse in focus can add up to a big number."

Competing as an individual:
Freshman Wongsakorn Fankumsai tied for 37^th at +30 (88-79-79 =243). He had 25 pars.

Briar Cliff has concluded the fall season.
