Briar Cliff Battles Warriors

FREMONT, Neb. –The Briar Cliff University volleyball team (0-10 GPAC, 6-16) lost 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-20) to #18 Midland (8-2 GPAC, 12-8), Saturday afternoon at Wikert Event Center.

In the first set, Midland jumped out 7-2 and pushed the lead to 14-8.  Senior Taryn Nothem crushed the ball off the block to get Briar Cliff rolling.

The Chargers forced an error to close out a 6-2 run to make it 16-14.  The Warriors scored four in a row to effectively take the set.

In the second set, BCU and Midland went back-and-forth early on.  Senior Olivia Corey dropped in an ace to put Briar Cliff up 6-5.  The Warriors reeled off a 14-2 run to take control.

In the third set, The Chargers took an 8-6 lead.  Midland scored seven straight to go up 13-8.

Sophomore Aliyah Basham found the back corner and Corey served up four straight points.  That tied the set at 13-13.

BCU and the Warriors went back-and-forth.  Briar Cliff forced an error to take the lead at 20-19.  Midland scored six points in a row to win the match.

For Briar Cliff, Basham had 10 kills while defensively, junior Avery Beller had 14 digs and senior Natalie Hughes had 10 digs.  It was Beller's 23rd consecutive double-digit dig match.

For Midland, Brooklynn Snyder had 12 kills and Delanie Vallinch had 25 digs.

Briar Cliff keeps to the road, Wednesday, Oct. 16 taking on Dordt.  The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
