CHARGERS FALL IN FOUR OVERTIME PERIODS TO DOANE

The Charger men's basketball team dropped a close contest to Doane 105-102 in the fourth overtime period in Crete, Nebraska Saturday afternoon. The contest featured several lead changes in the final 20 minutes of the contest.
 
With 3:44 remaining in the first half, Doane took a 28-21 lead following a jumper from River Johnston. Quinn Vesey responded by drilling a three to cut the lead to four. After a stop on the other end of the floor, Matthew Still will scored on a layup to put the Chargers within one possession. With the game tied at 28-28, Stilwill called for an isolation play and converted on a tough spin layup to give BCU a 30-28 lead heading into the half.
 
After a back and forth second half, the Tigers tied the contest 61-61 following a three from Brady Timm. Timm looked to ice the game with 13 seconds left, but a shot contest from Stilwill forced the first over time of the match.
 
In the first overtime period, Briar Cliff clung onto a 73-71 lead following a free throw from Wil Lugar. Doane tied the game with a layup from Timm to force a second overtime. Trailing by two in the second overtime with the shot clock turned off, Stillwill scored on a tough basket to tie the contest 82-82 to force a third overtime.
 
In the third overtime period, the score was tied 90-90 and the Chargers pushed the ball up the floor to look for the win. Tyrus Eischeid's last second attempt rimmed out and the contest was extended by another five minutes.
 
Trailing by three In the final seconds of the contest, Blake Sindelar was sent to the line for two free throws. After making the first, his second attempt missed the mark, but Lugar was able to grab the offensive board and put up a last effort for the Chargers. Lugar's fade away jumper was offline and the Tigers were able to take the 105-102 victory.
 
Stillwill paced the Chargers with 26 points and seven rebounds in the contest. Lugar had a near double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds. Vesey added 21 points on 50% from the field and knocked down crucial baskets to keep the Chargers within striking distance. Helmers scored 17 points and buried three triples.
 
The Chargers move to 9-6 (3-4 GPAC) and will be back on the road as they take on Northwestern in Orange City Wednesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
