The Briar Cliff women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over William Penn Sunday in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Head coach Gabrielle Parks earned her first victory at the Cliff behind a brace from
Lerato Mosia.
"We were tired of the draw yesterday and came in and just battled to the win today," said Parks. "Very proud of the grit from everybody."
Hannah Shuttleworth scored the first goal of the season for the Blue and Gold in the 12th minute. She was assisted by
Tia Lisy, as the Cliff took an early 1-0 lead.
The Chargers added a second goal five minutes later, this time off the head of Mosia.
Sydney Robbins sent a deep cross, that found Mosia right in front of the net, who finished the play with a header.
Jaime Rowlands, the Charger keeper, saw eight shots in the first half and made three saves to keep the Statesmen scoreless.
Mosia added an insurance run early in the second half to secure her first brace in the Blue and Gold. Mosia gained possession just across the center line, and after making a move on the defender, she chipped it past the keeper to give the Cliff a 3-0 lead.
Mosia led the Cliff with two shots on goal, while Shuttleworth,
Gemma White and
Sophia Rodriguez each added one shot on frame.
Rowlands secured her second shutout in as many days, making five saves in 90 minutes of work.
The Chargers will host Clarke Thursday at Memorial Field in their home opener at 1:30 p.m.
