The Briar Cliff volleyball team fell in three sets to McPherson Friday in McPherson, Kansas.
Â
"Mcpherson is a good team with many terminal hitters and Coach Cahill has them playing very well right now," said head coach
Lindsey Weatherford. "Our team put up a fight in set three, but the reality is that this whole season has been one of ups and downs and we will need to focus on adapting our play to overcome some of those adversities as they come along. I'm excited to see how we bounce back from this loss because that is a part of the game of volleyball."
Â
The first set was the Chargers best offensive set as they totaled 12 kills with a .195 hitting percentage. Back-to-back kills from
Isabelle Lenz and
Makynna Snow pulled the Cliff with two, 20-22, but the Bulldogs closed out set one 25-21.
Â
McPherson's attack ramped up in the second set, as they notched 17 kills at a .483 clip. The Chargers were held to a .067 hitting percentage in the set, as they fell 15-25.
Â
Following an early timeout, the Chargers scored seven of the next points to take a 10-8 lead. Kills from
Reese Strouth and
Sami Wasmund and a block from
Toria Andre fueled the run. The Chargers scored three straight to tie the game at 17, but the Bulldogs recorded eight of the next 11 points to complete the sweep.
Â
Wasmund led the Cliff with six kills, while
Kiersten Baker, Andre and Lenz had four each. Andre had five blocks.
