The Briar Cliff women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The Chargers earned a penalty kick opportunity when a Tiger defender took down a Charger attempting to make a play on a long pass in the 73rd minute. Hannah Shuttleworth converted the penalty for her second goal of the season.
The goal put the Chargers back within one of the Tigers. DWU's goals came in the 20th and 56th minutes.
Shuttleworth was held to just the one shot in the contest during her 85 minutes in the Charger midfield. Tia Lisy led the way with five shots for the Cliff, two of which were on frame. Lerato Mosia and Libby Ferguson added one shot each. Kinley Wood made two saves.
Sara Ewert and Hallie Stone scored the Dakota Wesleyan goals. Both were assisted by Annika Enevoldsen.
The Chargers slip to 1-3-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in GPAC action. DWU improves to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Chargers now look ahead to Mount Marty on Sunday. Kickoff in Yankton is set for 3:30 p.m.
