CHARGERS DRAW WITH GRAND VIEW IN SEASON OPENER

The Briar Cliff women's soccer team opened their season Saturday with a 0-0 draw at Grand View in Des Moines, Iowa.

"We battled hard and controlled the game tonight, but it just didn't go our way in the end," said head coach Gabrielle Parks.

The Vikings were awarded a corner kick just a minute into the contest and were the first team to put a shot on net moments later. The shot was saved by Charger goalie Jaime Rowlands, who made her first career start in the Blue and Gold.

Hannah Shuttleworth put the first shot on frame for BC in the seventh minute but was turned away by Maya Fritz. Both teams put three shots on frame in the opening 45 minutes, but the game remained scoreless.

Grand View took two corner kicks and had two shot attempts in the first five minutes of the second half, but the Charger defense held strong. In a five-minute span near the end of the contest, Rowlands would make three big saves to keep the Vikings scoreless.

Sophia Rodriguez put two shots on goal to lead BC. Sina Morl, Shuttleworth, Gemma White and Sydney Robbins all had one goal on net. Rowlands made seven saves in 90 minutes of work.

The Chargers will have a quick turnaround, as they head to Oskaloosa, Iowa tomorrow for a meeting with William Penn at 1:00 p.m.
