CHARGERS FALL ON THE ROAD TO VALLEY CITY STATE

The Briar Cliff volleyball team fell to Valley City State 0-3 Friday night in Valley City, North Dakota.

Toria Andre led the Cliff with nine kills and hit .294, while Georgianna Wenzel made the most of her opportunities with four kills on nine attacks (.444%).

"I thought we played exceptionally well in set 1, it was the most indicative of our play lately which was nice to see," said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. "Toria Andre and Sami Wasmund continue to be very consistent for us offensively. They also did a nice job at the net defensively."

Avery Beller's 28 digs was the seventh time this season and fourth game in a row she's reached 20+ digs.

"Avery Beller continues to out-dig teams with her relentless effort and put us into good situations to run our offense," said Weatherford.

Toria Andre got off to a fast start with three kills in the Chargers first six points. Briar Cliff took a timeout following a 6-1 Viking run and responded with a 6-2 run to take a 17-16 lead. Valley City State outscored BC 8-3 over the next 11 points to close out the set one win.

Andre recorded five kills in the opening set on seven attacks, while Beller reached double-digit digs with 10.

The Vikings offense totaled 19 kills in the second set with a .341 hitting percentage as they took set two 25-15.

Set three started with back-and-forth action and the score tied five times in the first 12 points. A service ace from Yenne Schepers capped off a 7-3 stretch for the Chargers that saw them take a 16-15 lead. The Chargers took a timeout trailing 19-23, and Wasmund recorded a pair of kills, but the Vikings closed out the match 25-21.

"In set three Georgianna Wenzel was a spark for us off the bench and did an impressive job of contributing four kills on only  nine attempts," said Weatherford.
