The Briar Cliff track and field teams closed out the GPAC Outdoor Championships Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Chargers had two athletes finish top-eight in
Isabel Sayler and
Dominic Archer, while three relays team also had top-eight placings.

"We had some good things happen today, but unfortunately we feel short of points in a lot of events by a few places," said head coach Scott Barnes. "Our 4x1 had a year's best hitting 41.5,
Dominic Archer had a great 100 and
Tulsa Janish also had a great 200 with a year's best time.
Hope Wagner had a strong shot put as well as
Isabel Sayler scoring points in the triple jump.
Muluken Wempe also had a personal best in the triple jump. We will try to snag a few more national qualifying spots in a week at the last chance meet."

Archer earned points for the Cliff in the 100-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 10.80 seconds. He just missed points in the 200-meter as he placed 11th. Archer was also a member of the Charger 4x100 team alongside
Brayden Ingraham, Janish and Joshua Milller that finished fourth at 41.58 seconds.

Isabel Sayler earned points for the Charger women in the triple jump, placing seventh with a leap of 10.68 seconds.

Vereen and Pross raced in the 400-meter and finished 17th and 19th, respectively.

Hope Wagner took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.47 meters, and also competed in the discus where she recorded a mark of 32.57 meters.

Kiana Vereen,
Isabel Sayler and
Pluma Pross made up the women's 4x100 team that ran a time of 51.08 seconds for sixth place.

Janish paced the Chargers in the 200-meter with a ninth-place finish at 21.91 seconds and was followed by
Osiel Ochoa in 15th and Ingraham in 18th.

Jalen Cook,
Robert Amaro and Ochoa took seventh in the 4x800 with a mark of 3:24.60.

In the 400-meter, Ochoa placed ninth at 50.50 seconds, while
Jalen Cook was 10th at 51.36 seconds.
Robert Amaro was 13th in the 800 at 1:59.75 seconds. The Chargers had two athletes race in the 3000-meter steeplechase with
Carter Matthews finished 18th and
Juan Celio in 20th.

In the men's triple jump,
Muluken Wempe had a season-best of 12.22 meters.
The Chargers will travel to Seward, Nebraska next Friday for the Concordia Last Chance meet in an effort to qualify for more athletes for the NAIA Track and Field Championships on May 24-26.
