WOMEN'S GOLF WRAPS UP WILLIAM WOODS SPRING INVITATIONAL

The Briar Cliff women's golf team wrapped up round two of the William Woods Spring Invitational on Tuesday at the Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Missouri. The Charger women finished the tournament in seventh place.

"I was pleased with how the ladies fought back today, but a little discouraged we didn't finish better than our year average", said head coach Ben Irlbeck. "We let a few shots slip down the stretch that we normally don't have trouble with. At the end of the day, we want to keep building confidence and gain experience. We definitely did that with the high quality field of teams at the event."

ROUND TWO
The Chargers concluded round two with a team of 335 (+47), a seven-stroke improvement from round one.

Helene Getz Bergmo led the way for the Chargers after posting a round-two score of 80 (+8). Bergmo's round saw 10 pars to raise her six spots up the leaderboad in the final round. She carded a two-stroke improvement from the front nine to the back nine, shooting a 41 (+5) and 39 (+3), respectively. Bergmo finished her tournament in a tie for 20th place.

Grace Johanson charged up the leaderboard on day two after returning to the clubhouse with an impressive score of 81 (+9). In round two, Johanson recorded one birdie to assist her 10 pars. She saw the largest improvement from round one to round two for the Chargers as she posted a round one score of 86 (+14). Johanson rounded out her tournament in a tie for 31st place.

Frankie Valencia ended her tournament in a tie for 42nd place as she fired a round-two score of 87 (+15). Valencia managed to card seven pars in the final round to edge out half the playing field. She found a three-stroke improvement after carding a front nine 45 (+9) and a back nine 42 (+6).

Kelly Baade rounded out the top-four scorers for the Cliff in round two after posting a score of 87 (+15), a four-stroke improvement from round one. Baade recorded the only other birdie on the day for the Chargers and tallied four pars. Baade dropped a few spots down the board to finish in a tie for 51st place.

Abbigale Miller fired a 91 (+19) in the final round of the event. Miller scrambled for four pars on the day, three of them coming from the front nine holes. Miller matched Valencia and Johanson in round one with a score of 86 (+14). She wrapped up her time in Missouri in a tie for 48th place.

The Chargers also registered two individuals in the event. Sophia Johnson and Avery Beller walked off the final green with the scores of 102 (+30) and 108 (+36), respectively. Johnson moved one spot up the leaderboard to finish in a solo 70th place, while Beller tallied a tie for 72nd-place finish.

"The next event is a big one for us at Concordia next week", noted Irlbeck. "It gives us the chance against conference foes to toe the line and do battle."

The Charger women return to the course on Monday and Tuesday, April 3-4, when they travel to the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the Bulldog Spring Invite hosted by Concordia.
