The Briar Cliff track and field teams kicked off their outdoor season at the Wildcat Classic Saturday, hosted by Wayne State. Hope Wagner wasted little time in the outdoor season, as she NAIA B Standard to qualify for the national meet on May 24-26 in Marion, Indiana.

"Very good first meet. Hope qualifies for nationals right out of the gate," said head coach Scott Barnes. "She has elevated herself and become dominant to the point where qualifying for nationals is just a routine thing. Isabel Sayler had a great day as well, jumping 10.7m which is a great opener for this weather. I was also very impressed with out 100-meter crew and the efforts and competitiveness our team gave after being out from racing for a month."

Seven Chargers placed top-five in five different individual events, while the BC men's 4x100 took second place. Dominic Archer had the best solo finish for the Cliff, taking second in the 100m dash at 10.87 seconds.

Isabel Sayler had the best finish on the women's side, placing third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.79m. Hope Wagner, an Indoor National Qualifier in the shot put, hit the outdoor 'B' standard today with a throw of 13.39m.

Dominic Archer, Brayden Ingraham, Tulsa Janish and Joshua Miller made the 4x100 team that took second with a time of 42.74 seconds.

Robert Amaro took fourth in the 400m at 51.64 seconds, while Ingraham placed fifth in the 100 at 10.98.

In his first 3000m steeplechase for the Blue and Gold, Carter Matthews placed third after finishing in 11:21.13. Also seeing his first action in the steeplechase was Juan Celio who was fifth at 12:11.17.

The Chargers will be off for a week before returning to action on April 7-8 at the USD Early Bird Invite in Vermillion, South Dakota.
