The #9 ranked Chargers rolled to a 90-58 victory Saturday afternoon against Mount Marty in Yankton, South Dakota.
The Chargers got off to a quick 16-0 run in the first quarter, capped off by a three pointer from
Payton Slaughter.
Rachel Langel extended the lead to 21 at the end of the quarter after converting on her and-one attempt.
Halfway through the second, the Chargers led by 25 following a three ball from
Grace Flanagan. The Cliff led 46-17 heading into halftime.
Briar Cliff led 71-34 midway through the third quarter following a triple from
Makenna Kleinhesselink. Kleinhesselink nailed her second three in the final moments of the third to push the Charger lead to 39.
In the fourth,
Kenna Mongan came off the bench and drained back-to-back threes as the Chargers led 78-38.
Mallie McNair led the way with 21 points on an efficient 66% from the field and 50% from downtown.
Payton Slaughter recorded five points with 10 assists and six rebounds.
Kennedy Benne and
Konnor Sudmann both chipped in 11 points respectively. 12 different Chargers recorded a basket in the contest.
The Charger defense held the Lancers to 36% from the field and 25% from three. They forced 21 turnovers in the contest. Briar Cliff shot 46% from the field and knocked down 15 threes in the contest.
The Chargers who now sit at 9-0 will host the #2 team in the country in Dordt. The Chargers knocked off the Defenders in last season's GPAC tournament title match to punch the Chargers ticket to the National Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
