DAVIES SETS CAREER PASSING TOUCHDOWN MARK, CHARGERS DOWN JIMMIES 39-30

Luke Davies became the Briar Cliff football program's all-time passing touchdown leader after throwing three touchdowns in the 39-30 win at Jamestown Saturday afternoon. "I'm really proud of how our team found a way to win that game," said Head Coach Shane Ladage. "Our defense played really well, and it's been fun to see their continued growth!"

Early in the second quarter, Carlos Lopez stripped Jamestown's John Grann and recovered the fumble, giving the Chargers the ball on the Jimmies' 10-yard line. Matthew Mason would punch it in on an eight-yard run, followed by a two-point conversion from Johnny Bauser to Steven Whiting would give the Cliff an 8-7 lead.

Jacob Meyer connected on his lone field goal attempt to give BCU an 11-7 lead heading into halftime.

The Jimmies scored on their opening drive in the third quarter, going five plays for 39 yards capped by Grann's six-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Roebuck to take a 14-11 lead.

Midway through the third quarter and facing a third-and-long situation, Grann was stripped sacked by Angel Nava-Esparza, and Lakey Martin picked up the loose ball and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown, giving the Chargers a 18-14 lead. The Jimmies regained the lead heading into the fourth quarter after Grann's 16-yard rushing touchdown to lead 21-18.

The Chargers found themselves in second-and-27 on their own 20 at the beginning of the fourth. Davies connected with Stephen Whiting for a 48-yard gain to the Jimmies 32-yard line. The Cliff scored on a 24-yard strike from Davies to Aaron Okoro to give Briar Cliff a 25-21 lead.

Davies tossed his second touchdown of the day, a 13-yard completion to Okoro to give BCU a 32-21 lead. With 4:55 remaining in the game, Davies and Okoro connected for a 41-yard touchdown to give BCU a 39-24 lead with 3:11 left in the contest.

The Jimmies closed the lead to 39-30 following Grann's touchdown pass to Roebuck. The Chargers recovered the Jimmies' onside kick attempt and burned 2:50 off the game clock to secure the victory.

Davies entered the contest in the second half and went 8-for-12 for 161 yards. He now holds the most passing touchdowns in a Charger uniform with 35, a record previously held by Kevin Van Egdom. Okoro recorded six catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Whiting recorded 55 yards on two catches. Matthew Mason carried the ball 23 times for 83 yards and a rushing score.

"I can't say enough great things about Luke," said Ladage. "He's fought through adversity and proved once again how valuable he is to our program! Aaron also showed us why he's one of the premier wide receivers in the GPAC!"

Nava-Esparza led BCU with six tackles with 2.5 for a loss. Lopez recorded six tackles with a sack and forced fumble in the contest. Patrick Gassant Jr. recorded a sack, while Winston Gassant and MJ Montgomery shared a sack.

The Chargers move to 4-6 overall (4-5 GPAC) and will return to Memorial Field for a showdown against Morningside for senior day next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
