Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#12 CHARGERS STAY UNBEATEN, DOWN DWU 89-80

The #12 Charger women's basketball team improved to 7-0 (2-0 GPAC) after defeating the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan 89-80 inside the Newman Flanagan Center Tuesday evening.

The Chargers led 56-41 heading into the second half.

In the third quarter, the Tigers looked to mount a comeback, finding Emma Yost on a cut to the paint to trim the Charger lead 63-54. Back-to-back baskets from Rylee Rosenquist trimmed the Charger lead to five. A basket at the end of the quarter from Payton Slaughter gave the Chargers a 70-62 lead heading into the final frame.

Rosenquist found the bottom of the net midway through the fourth on a tough layup in the paint, to cut the Charger lead down to three. With 6:04 remaining, Slaughter found Rachel Langel in the paint for a score, and Briar Cliff pushed their lead back to six.

With 1:43 remaining, Langel's shot was offline, but Konnor Sudmann hustled for the offensive board and scored on a put back to extend the lead to 11. The Chargers closed out the contest 89-80 to remain undefeated.

Slaughter led the way with 24 points and went nine-for-12 from the field. Sudmann scored 18 points and went a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe. Mallie McNair chipped in 17 points while Rachel Langel scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The Tigers Emma Yost scored 24 points on an efficient 10-for-12 from the field.

The Chargers will return to action Wednesday November 29, as they travel to take on cross-town rival Morningside. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
