The #12 Charger women's basketball team continued their hot streak, defending home court Saturday afternoon by cruising past the College of Saint Mary 103-47. The Chargers found their stride from beyond the arc, knocking down 20 three pointers in the contest.
In the early minutes of the first, Briar Cliff knocked down three straight threes from Mollie McNair and
Payton Slaughter. The Cliff led 14-5 with 5:38 remaining in the quarter after a three-point shot from
Grace Flanagan. BCU took 27-12 lead heading into the second quarter.
Makenna Kleinhesselink and
Konnor Sudmann knocked down back-to-back threes midway through the second quarter to give the Cliff a 47-14 lead. The Chargers outscored the Flames 36-11 in the quarter.
The Chargers outscored the Flames 40-24 to take the victory in their home opener.
Seven Chargers scored in double figures in the contest, led by McNair's 14 points and five steals.
Kennedy Benne scored 13 points to go with two steals.
Jayden Frank 12 points and shot 75% from beyond the arc coming off the bench.
Kenna Mongan added 10 points and dished out five assists in a reserve role.
Briar Cliff shot 51% from the field, and 48% from downtown. They held the Flames to 34% from the field, and forced 26 turnovers.
The Chargers improve to 6-0 (2-0 GPAC) on the season. They will return to action Tuesday, November 21, as they take on Dakota Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
