Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

CHARGERS DROP ROAD CONTEST TO TIGERS

The Charger volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road Wednesday evening to Dakota Wesleyan. "I was proud of our efforts in sets one and two," said Head Coach Lindsey Weatherford. "We are very close to getting over the hump as far as stringing points together to win consecutive sets."

Briar Cliff in set one jumped out to a 7-1 run against the Tigers, with Toria Andre recording three kills during the stretch. With the Chargers holding on to a 14-13 lead, BCU committed five errors and found themselves trailing DWU 18-14.  The Tigers took set one 25-22 after a Ady Dwight kill.

Trailing 21-15 in set two, the Chargers used a four-point swing to close the lead 21-19 and forced the Tigers to use a timeout. Resse Strouth and Makynna Snow recorded a kill during the run, along with a block from Andre. The Tigers outscored the Chargers 4-3 in the final moments to take set two 25-22.

DWU took control early in set three, closing out the match 25-16. Reese Strouth and Andre both recorded two kills in the set.

Andre led the Chargers in kills with 12, followed by Strouth's six. Sami Wasmund recorded five kills to go with six blocks and Georgianna Wenzel recorded three blocks. "Toria Andre and Sami Wasmund led by example tonight at the net and while kills didn't come easy for them, they found a way to be involved and contribute in a positive way," said Weatherford. "Georgianna Wenzel made an impact with blocks at crucial times for us, she is really coming on strong at the end of the season."

Yenne Schepers led the team in assists with 22 and Avery Beller led the Chargers in digs with 11.

The Chargers fall to 7-21 (2-12 GPAC) and return to the Newman Flanagan Center on Saturday as they take on cross-town rival Morningside. First serve is designated for 7:30 p.m.
