Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MEN'S SOCCER PULLS AWAY IN SECOND HALF TO DOWN TIGERS

The Briar Cliff men's soccer team improved to 8-2-1 (5-0-1 GPAC) Saturday with a 5-1 win over Doane. The Chargers have outscored opponents 14-5 over the past three games.

"It's always difficult to go on the road and get three points, but we did enough to do just that," said head coach Teren Schuster. "In the first half we weren't at our best but in the second half we were able to turn the screw and put the game out of reach."

Pablo Garcia-Pola Coppen put the Chargers on the board in the sixth minute of play. Coppen curled a free kick from 30 yards out, beating the keeper on the near side of the net. The Tigers would net an equalizer in the eighth minute but would be held to just the one goal by Hjalmar Nilsson the rest of the way. Nilsson made two saves in his 90 minutes in net.

Hugo Mariage netted the game winner in the 26th minute when a Doane defender knocked the ball away from a Charger player right to Mariage who skipped the ball past the keeper.

The Chargers tacked on three insurance goals in the second half from Antoni Llull Plomer, Herman Toftevag and Nicolas Karlsen. Despite taking eight shots, with two on net, in the second half the Tigers were held scoreless.

The Chargers were awarded six corner kicks, while limited Doane to one. BC took 15 shots (nine on goal) to Doane's 11 (three on net).

The Blue and Gold return to Faber Field when they host Waldorf at 1:00 p.m.
