#22 CHARGERS SURGE PAST DOANE IN 80-57 WIN

The Briar Cliff women's basketball team handily defeated Doane 80-54 in the NFC on Saturday afternoon. Peyton Wingert recorded her second double-double of the season after recording 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Chargers came out firing early, shooting 68.8% from the field and 4-6 from three-point range in the first quarter while the Tigers shot 50% from the field but knocked down only one three-point bucket. This fueled BC to a 30-15 lead after the first 10 minutes. Payton Slaughter netted two 3-point baskets in the first three minutes of the contest.

Briar Cliff continued their momentum in the second quarter with a 15-4 run, forcing seven turnovers and scoring six points off Tiger mistakes. The Briar Cliff defense held Doane to 20% from the field in the second period, and went into the halftime break with a 49-22 lead.

The Chargers picked up where they left off in the second half, converting 38.9% of their shots and forcing six turnovers in the third quarter whereas the Tigers forced three turnovers and shot just over 28% from the floor.

The Tigers shot 50% and forced six turnovers in the final 10 minutes, outscoring a cruise controlled Briar Cliff team 23-12 in the quarter. The late push from Doane wasn't enough as the Cliff went on to win 80-57.

All five BC starters scored in double-digits combining for 65 points. Madelyn Deitchler had a game-high 18 points, recording four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Peyton Wingert, who carded a double-double, had 13 points alongside10 rebounds and three assists. Payton Slaughter added 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Konnor Sudmann and Kennedy Benne each netted 10 points.

The Cliff held an advantage in points off turnovers outscoring Doane 18-4. Briar Cliff held a 21-to-12 assist-to-turnover ratio, while focring 21 Doane turnovers.

The Charger women take a road trip to Jamestown, North Dakota on Wednesday, January 11 as they will face the Jimmies of Jamestown University.
