After 18 holes of the Lila Frommelt Classic at Green Valley Golf Course, Helene Getz Bergmo paces the field after a +2 round. As a team, the Chargers are in third with a team score of 333 and are 12 shots back of the leader Iowa Western.
 
"We had some ups and downs today, no pun intended," said head coach Ben Irlbeck. "Helene was five-for-eight on her up and down percentage, which has helped her maintain the solo lead."
 
Bergmo kept a relatively clean scorecard, totaling 14 pars with one birdie and three bogeys. After a birdie on hole eight, she carded eight pars in a row. Bergmo holds a two-shot lead after second-place Sofia Castelan from Morningside.
 
Abbigale Miller improved by nine strokes after making the turn and finished with a score of 85 (+13). Miller rolled in three birdies on the back nine, playing the final nine holes at +2. Frankie Valencia turned in an 85 as well and rolled in two birdies. The two are tied for 18th place overall.
 
"Overall, I think we are starting to come into our own. It helps playing a home course like Green Valley where we feel very comfortable," said Irlbeck. "Difficulties I saw today were mostly around the greens as a few pins were tucked on slopes, but the field struggled on those greens as well."
 
Kelly Baade is tied for 27th after day one and carded an 89. Baade tallied one birdie in her round. Grace Johanson was the fifth member of the Charger squad and turned in a 99 with one birdie.
 
"I'm really looking for us to make a run at Iowa Western tomorrow," said Irlbeck. "They are 12 clear of us, but we really only got a "better than average" score from Helene today. The rest of the team will bounce back and get it rolling!"
 
The BC "B" squad carded a 415 on the day and were led by Isabelle Marsala's score of 100. Sophia Johnson finished one stroke back of Marsala with a tally of 101. Addison Butler turned in an 102, while Katie Wight rounded out the BC golfers with a 112. 
 
The Chargers are back at Green Valley Golf Course tomorrow morning for the final round of the Lila Frommelt Classic.
