Five Chargers land on all-GPAC softball teams

The Briar Cliff softball team had five players named to the GPAC All-Conference Teams, headlined by a first-team selection from Josie Chronic. Kylee Lukes was named to the second team, while Sydney Lierman, Karina Cupples and Kennedy Andersen were honorable mentions.

Chronic, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, had the seventh best batting average in the GPAC at .406 and had the sixth best on-base percentage of .457. Chronic had 54 hits, scored 32 runs, 3 doubles and three triples. She drove in 15 runs and stole four bases. She totaled 17 multi-hit games and scored two or more runs in nine different games. In BC's win over Missouri Valley, Chronic went 4-for-6 at the plate and scored four runs.

Lukes, a sophomore from Jefferson, Wisconsin, recorded a .356 batting average and a .427 on-base percentage, which ranked 11th in the GPAC. Lukes totaled 47 hits, 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs. She tallied 19 RBIs and stole nine bases. She had 17 multi-hit games and scored two or more runs in five games. In a win over Hastings, Lukes went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, two stolen bases and two walks.

Lierman, a freshman from Hillsboro, Oregon, posted a .317 batting average with 33 hits and six doubles. She had two stolen bases, six doubles, and 12 RBIs. She had eight multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 with one double performance against Concordia. Against Dakota Wesleyan, Lierman went 2-for-3 with a. double in three RBIs.

Cupples, a freshman from Drumright, Oklahoma, was ninth in the conference with 13 stolen bases and had a .357 batting average. She totaled 50 hits, one double and one triple and scored 25 runs. Cupples had 15 multi-hit games and had six games were she scored multiple times. Against Missouri Valley, Cupples went 4-for-6 from the plate, had one RBI and scored four runs.

Andersen, a junior from Panora, Iowa, had a .333 batting average, .417 on-base percentage and totaled 28 hits. She recorded 28 hits, two doubles, one home run and drove in 12 runs. She had eight games with multiple hits. In a win over Dakota Wesleyan, Andersen went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Midland swept the individual awards with Roni Foote being named the Hauff Mid-America Sports Player-of-the-Year. Aliyah Rincon was named the pitcher-of-the-year and Beth Singleton was the coach-of-the-year.
