The Charger baseball team traveled to Yankton, South Dakota for a doubleheader against Mount Marty Tuesday evening. The Cliff dropped game one 4-0 and game two 7-3.
Game 1 – L, 4-0
After three scoreless innings, the Lancers scored the games first runs after a two RBI triple by David Richardson.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mount Marty added a run after Josh Roeman scored on an error to take a 3-0 lead. Mason Townsend capped off the Lancers scoring after his RBI single drove in Noah Moon to lead 4-0.
The Chargers in the top of the seventh fell in order, and the Cliff fell 4-0.
Jake Allen,
Quentin Evers, and
Cam Riemer were the only Chargers to record a hit in the contest.
Ryan Riddle started on the bump for BC and went five innings and recorded seven K's and gave up four earned runs.
Game 2 – L, 7-3
The Chargers fell into a 7-0 hole in the first four innings, recording only two hits during that stretch.
Mount Marty got on the board in the bottom of the second as Lake Terveer scored off an error to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Lancers scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-0 lead capped by a Richardson two-run homer. The Lancers added another run in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single from Billy Hancock to extend the lead 7-0.
The Chargers got on the board in the top of the fifth, as
Dawson Forcella reached base on a fielders choice to allow Quienten Evers to cross home plate to cut the lead 7-1.
Mike Anthony reached base on a fielders choice, scoring
Easton Cone and BC trailed 7-2.
In the top of the sixth,
Walter Hunt belted a solo homer to cut the deficit to 7-3 heading into the final inning.
Matthew Delgado was called to pinch hit in the top of the seventh and led off with a single to put runners on base for BC. Riemer singled to put runners at first and second with two outs, but Allen struck out swinging and the Chargers dropped game two 7-3.
Hunt went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Anthony went 1-for-4 with a RBI.
The Chargers move to 25-18 overall (13-11 GPAC) and return home Friday for a four game home stand against Concordia. Game one is designated for 1pm with game two to follow shortly after.
