After dropping the first contest of the day against Jamestown 6-0, the Charger softball team took game two 1-0 in dramatic finish to split the series.
"I'm proud of how our girls battled today," said head coach
Erin Bly. "Our bats were flat but we found a way to split with a talented Jamestown squad.
Mackenna Raby and
Kennedy Andersen had an outstanding performance for us on the mound and behind the plate. Mackenna did a fantastic job mixing speeds and locations to give us a shot to win."
Raby pitched six full innings, recorded three strikeouts, while giving up five hits and surrendering one walk in game two.
Game 1 – L, 6-0
Kayla Guerrero got the start for the Chargers in game one, holding the Jimmies scoreless through the first two innings. In the top of the first, Guerrero retired the first two batters, before giving up a single, along with a double that put the Jimmies in scoring position with two outs. She was able to work out of the jam, forcing a groundout to end the inning, leaving two runners on base. Guerrero made quick work in the second inning by forcing ground outs and retired the side in order.
The Jimmies got on the board in the top of the third, when Megan Neiles hit an RBI single, driving in LaLa Romero.
The Jimmies extended their lead in the top of the fifth after an RBI single from Santina Zito. With two outs and a runner on second, Gracie Fisher belted a two-run homer to give the Jimmies a 4-0 lead.
The Jimmies added an insurance run in the fifth and sixth inning en route to 6-0 win. Kat Miska pitched seven scoreless innings for the Jimmies, recording three strikeouts and giving up four hits.

Jessica James recorded hits for the Cliff.
Game 2 – W, 1-0
The Jimmies looked to strike first in the top of the first, after Fisher drew a walk and loaded the bases.
Georgia Krohn got the start in the pitching circle, and was able to pitch out of the jam, forcing a ground out to leaving three runners on base.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Chargers looked to put runs on the board after putting runners on the corners with two outs. The Jimmies were able to hold the Chargers from scoring, as James grounded out on a fielder's choice and the Chargers were unable to capitalize with a runner in scoring position.
In the bottom of the seventh inning with both teams still scoreless,
Kylee Lukes hit a single with one out and represented the game winning run.
Alexis Westercamp came in to pinch hit, and reached first after a throwing error. During the play, Lukes was able to round second and reach third base. In the next at-bat, Lukes was able to score off a passed ball, and the Chargers won 1-0.
Jamestown's Katie Merchant until that point, pitched six scoreless innings, and gave up five hits and recorded two strikeouts.
Karina Cupples, Billings, Lukes, and Chronic tallied hits in the contest for BC.
The Chargers move to 11-8 overall (1-1 GPAC) and have gone 8-2 in their last 10 contests. They return to action Wednesday for a GPAC doubleheader against Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa. First pitch for game one is slated for 5:00 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
