The Briar Cliff baseball team fell in both games of Sunday's doubleheader with #24 Bellevue. The Chargers fell behind in the first inning of both contests and were unable to generate enough runs for a comeback.
Game 1 – L, 3-9
The Bruins scored the first runs of the game after back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the first. The Bruins tallied their fourth run of the inning off a two-run home run by Alex Stufft.
Trey Rogers led off in the top of the third and sent a solo shot over the fence to give BC their first run of the game. The Bruins answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run after three straight singles.
Brayden Artzer, who pinch ran after a leadoff double from
Jake Allen, would score after
Mike Anthony reached base via fielder's choice. The Bruins added two more insurance run in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 8-2 lead. Artzer crossed home plate for the second time after a
Walter Hunt single.
Hunt went 3-for-3 with one RBI, while
Cam Riemer and
Jake Allen both went 2-for-4.
Dalen Blair was tagged with loss after going 4.0 innings and allowing eight runs (six earned) with five strikeouts.
Game 2 – L, 2-11
Bellevue sent three solo home runs over the fence in the first two innings and scored 11 runs before the Chargers were able to get on the board.
In the top of the seventh, the Chargers loaded the bases after three straight walks.
Easton Cone singled to left field, scoring
Dawson Forcella and
Cody Salker.
Allen, Rogers and Cone tallied hits for the Cliff.
Rylan Aamold went 5.0 innings giving up 12 hits and 11 runs (10 earned) with six strikeouts.
The Chargers open up a 10-game home stand on Tuesday as they host Southwest Minnesota State for doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Bishop Mueller Field.
