Game Recap: Baseball |

Charger baseball falls 9-2 to #24 Bellevue

The Briar Cliff baseball team fell 9-2 in game one of a three-game series with #24 Bellevue Saturday in Bellevue, Nebraska.

"We are obviously scuffling offensively right now, which is tough when you're facing really good pitchers," said head coach Corby McGlauflin. "Tyler Kjose and Alex Kremer did a great job saving our bullpen with a lot of games coming up. The beautiful thing about baseball though is we get right back out there tomorrow."

After a 1-2-3 inning by the Chargers, the Bruins scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Bellevue added two more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Matt Hmielewski gave the Cliff their first hit of the ballgame in the top of the sixth with an infield single.

Walter Hunt singled to left field to start the eighth inning. With two outs, Conner Lange gave the Chargers their first runs of the contest with a two-run home run, scoring Hunt. BC was unable to score runs in the ninth inning, falling 9-2 to the Bruins.

Kyler Steinborn takes the loss for the Chargers, allowing three unearned runs in one inning of work. Tyler Kjose went five innings in relief and struck out five, while Alex Kremer threw two innings and had three strikeouts.

Hmielewski went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Lange, Hunt and Jared Sitzmann also recorded hits.

Elijah Johnson went seven innings and allowed just one hit while striking out eight. Three Bruins tallied multiple hits and four had at least one RBI.

The Chargers will look to bounce back against the Bruins tomorrow on John Stella Field. Game one is set to start at 1:00 p.m. with game two to follow.
