The Briar Cliff men's golf team completed the final day of the San Antonio Shootout Tuesday, moving up one spot and finishing with a 973 (324, 325, 324) team score.
"Individually we had a better showing from Shaunak, Desi, and Davess today," said head coach
Ben Irlbeck. "However, Desi and Davess were playing as individuals, so their scores didn't count toward the team score. Overall, I was disappointed with the team performance. After a record setting fall, we stumbled out of the blocks this spring. On a positive note, this is our earliest spring competition, and we will be ready for our upcoming competitions."
Shaunak Rama improved his score in each round of the tournament and carded a 233 (80, 78, 75). After a +3 front nine, Rama played his second nine at even par with one birdie. He finished the tournament tied for 111th and was just one stroke off a top-10 placement.
Andrew Arndorfer finished with an 82 in his third round with two birdies. He placed tied for 26th with a total score of 242.
Gregorio Fernandez carded a 252 (83, 86, 83) to place 35th and had one birdie on the day.
Mason Collins tied for 33rd with a 249 (82, 83, 84). He shot +9 on his front nine, but bounced back in his second nine at just three-over par. Elijah Lamourex tied for 36th with a 253 (80, 89, 84) and had two birdies in his third round.
"We will continue to build both confidence and experience. If we continue to work hard in our preparation, results will follow," said Irlbeck. "At the end of the day, we got to play one of the toughest golf courses on the PGA Tour in 80-degree temps in February. Gotta love that!"
Desmond Landin shaved three strokes off his second-round score, carding a 78 (+6) today. He finished 25th with a total score of 241.
Davess Verdugo cut seven strokes off his day one score, turning in a 79 (+7) and tied for 29th with a score of 246.
