The Charger baseball team dropped its opening day double header Saturday in Joplin, Missouri, falling 2-0 to William Penn and 10-2 against Evangel.

Game 1 vs William Penn - L, 2-0
The Cliff trailed William Penn 1-0 at the top of the second inning. The Statesman Nathan Jessell and Jameson Hart started the inning with singles to put runners in scoring position. After a groundout with runners on second and third, Jessell scored on a passed ball.Â

In the top of the fifth, the Statesman's Soren Graverson hit a solo-homerun to go up 2-0. The Chargers were unable to respond going down in order in the bottom of the inning.

In the sixth inning, the Chargers had runners in scoring position, but were unable to capitalize after
Walter Hunt flied out to end the inning.

The Chargers looked to rally in the seventh inning, with runners on first and second and the game winning run at the plate.
Matthew Delgado grounded out to third and the Chargers fell 2-0.

Jacob Wesselman went all seven innings for the Chargers, giving up four hits and one earned run along with a strikeout.
Mike Anthony was 2-for-3Â at the plate while Jacob Allen and
Quentin Evers each recorded a hit.

Game 2 vs Evangel - L, 10-2

The Chargers trailed 10-0 in the first five innings against Evangel. Cam Remier would get the Chargers on the board at the top of the sixth with a RBI singIe. Delgado scored on a wild pitch shortly after as the Chargers trailed 10-2 at the top of the sixth. Evangel would add an insurance run at the bottom of the inning.

The Chargers were unable to make up ground in the seventh, falling in order and losing game two 11-2.Â
Remier and
Trey Rogers both went 1-for-1 at the plate. Evers, Delgado, and Dawson all recorded a hit in the contest. Forcella and Delgado also recorded one run each.
Evangel's Mason Hansen went 4-for-4 with two RBI's. Athanie Leeviraphan, Parker Dinwiddie and Noah Suiter both recorded two hits on the game. Levi Loughridge went 5.1 innings while only giving up four hits and two earned runs.
The Chargers fall to 0-2 on the season and will look to rebound against Roosevelt University Sunday in Joplin, Missouri at 11:00 AM.
