Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

SUDMANN DROPS CAREER-HIGH 32 POINTS IN WIN OVER HASTINGS

Sometimes all you need is a dominant 10-minute stretch to take over a ball game. The #22 Briar Cliff women's basketball team did just that Thursday night, outscoring Hastings 29-11 in a dominant third quarter on their way to an 83-71 victory.

When the Chargers need a bucket in Lynn Farrell Arena, they turned to the duo of Konnor Sudmann and Madelyn Deitchler. The two combined for 54 points while shooting 20-for-37 from the field.

While Sudmann and Deitchler filled up the scoreboard, it was a total team effort on the floor with seven players grabbing a rebound, six tallying an assist and all nine Chargers scored at least two points. Peyton Wingert had a team-high eight boards and was followed by Deitchler and Payton Slaughter's six rebounds. Cadence Davis and Sudmann recorded three assists apiece.

Briar Cliff trailed the Broncos 38-40 at halftime, but after the 10-minute third quarter the Chargers held a 16-point advantage. BC scored six second chance points, five points off turnovers and 10 points in the paint.

Sudmann took over in the third, scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Trailing 40-47 a minute into the third period, the Chargers outscored Hastings 27-4 over the next nine minutes of play. Briar Cliff's pressure defense limited Hastings to 2-of-10 shooting and forced five turnovers.

The Chargers kept the Broncos at a distance throughout the fourth quarter, holding onto their double-digit lead for the full 10 minutes.

Sudmann set a new career-high with 32 points no 11-for-16 shooting with three 3-pointers. She totaled four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Deitchler scored 22 points to go with six rebounds. Wingert had seven points and eight rebounds, while Slaughter had six points and six rebounds.

The Blue and Gold travel to Madison, South Dakota this Sunday for a matchup against Dakota State at 3:00 p.m. The Chargers defeated the Trojans early this season 85-78 on November 4.
