In a three-team tournament Monday, the Briar Cliff women's golf team placed first at the Iowa Lakes Invite in Arnold's Park, Iowa.
Helene Getz Bergmo paced the Cliff to a team score of 347 at Emerald Hills Golf Course.
"The course played tough today and our biggest struggle was gaining confidence on the greens," said head coach
Ben Irlbeck. "We managed the trees well overall, which, I think gave us an advantage over the competition."
Bergmo took first place at the meet and was the lone golfer to shoot sub-80 with a score of 77. After a front-nine mark of 40, she shaved three strokes off on the back-nine.
Frankie Valencia finished in second place with a final tally of 86. Valencia also found her rhythm after the turn, posting a score of 41 on her final nine holes.
Grace Johanson posted back-to-back 45s on her way to a score of 90, while
Abbigale Miller shot a 94 (46, 48).
Kelly Baade was the fifth member of the Charger squad and finished with a 96 (50, 46).
Addison Butler and
Katie Wight golfed as individuals and fired a 110 and 111, respectively.
"We are going to turn our attention to match play, as the final event of the fall is a team match play event hosted by Baker University," said Irlbeck.
The Chargers will have a two week break before heading to Olathe, Kansas for the Wildcat Match Play at Prairie Highlands Golf Course.
