A pair of 20-point performances from Kyle Boerhave and
Quinn Vesey were not enough for the #24 Charger men's basketball team as they fell 80-93 to Presentation. It was each team's second game in as many days, and they both move to 1-1 on the season.
Â
"Tonight was pretty disappointing for a lot of reason, I don't think we played with the urgency or intensity it takes to win," said head coach
Mark Svagera. "I felt like we got out played and out coached tonight, and that's something we have to fix by becoming a consistently good practice every single day."
The Chargers and Trojans shot nearly identical percentages at just over 48% from the floor in the opening half. The Chargers built up their largest lead of the game, 25-17 after four straight points from Vesey. The Saints would close out the half with a 8-0 run to take a one-point lead.
Â
Vesey and Boerhave combined for 17 of the Cliff's 32 first half points on 7-for-15 shooting.
Â
The Chargers struggled to stop a Saints offense that caught fire in the second fire, putting up 60 points on 66.7% shooting. Presentation built their lead to double digits within the first five minutes of the second half.
Â
After Presentation took their largest lead of the night, 57-43, the Chargers looked to mount a comeback with an 8-0 run with 10 minutes left. Presentation would put an end to the BC efforts by extending their lead back to double digits.
Â
Matthew Stilwill scored 12 points off the bench on 5-of-6 shooting with two steals. In addition to his 20 points, Vesey added three assists and four steals.
Conner Groves scored 11 points and knocked down a pair of treys.
Â
The Chargers will next play in front of their home fans on Ray Nacke Court next Friday against #7 William Penn at 7:00 p.m.
