The RV Briar Cliff wrestling team took a 24-21 win over #19 Morningside Saturday night. The dual was highlighted by three Charger major decisions and a pin from
Christian Balmer.
The dual began at the 149-lb. weight class with Morningside's John Diener, who ranks 14th in the NAIA, winning by fall over
Andrew Shea.
Ben Peters ranks 11th in the NAIA at 149-lb., and took a 16-2 major decision over Abraham Dirkx at 157. The Mustangs won by fall at 165 over
Nathan Atwood to take a 12-4 team score lead.
Balmer responded at 174 for the Cliff with a fall over Jackson Chapin.
Jeremiah Glise followed up Balmer's performance with a major decision 13-3 over Brady Kacmarynski at 184. BC took a 14-12 team edge at the halfway point of the dual.
Jon Garcia dropped his match at 197 3-1 against Hunter Dejong who ranks 14th in the NAIA and third in the GPAC. In the heavyweight bout,
Alton Allen took a 2-1 decision over Brenick Hoppe.
CaRon Watson earned the Chargers third major decision of the night, with a 9-1 win over Benjamin Schmitz at 125. The Mustangs won by disqualification at 133 and the team score was tied 21-21 heading into the final weight class between the GPAC's third and fourth ranked wrestlers.
Ethan Krey ranks fourth in the GPAC at 141 and won by an 8-7 decision over the GPAC's third ranked wrestler Noah Styskal to secure BC's 24-21 dual win.
"The guys wrestled well tonight against a tough Morningside team," said head coach
Joe Privitere. "We knew we were going to have to bring our A game and the guys answered the bell. We are starting to get some guys healthy so I look forward to seeing the team at full strength down the stretch."
The Chargers improve to 5-2 in duals and 4-2 in the GPAC. BC returns to the mat next Friday and Saturday at the Missouri Valley Invite in Marshall, Missouri.
